Who we are...
The principals of A1A Tennis are Dennis Grainger, Blake Merrell and Chuck Narvin. As members of the USPTA, they have experience, personalities, organizational skills, business acumen, work ethic, responsibility, teaching and playing capabilities, member-relation skills and the ability to consistently service the needs of both adult and junior members as well as guests.
Dennis Grainger has established himself as the ultimate promoter of tennis tournaments in Florida. Currently the Tennis Director of the Hamlet Country Club, Delray Beach, he is a highly motivated professional who is knowledgeable in all phases of the tennis industry. As an excellent teacher and tournament player, he developed the award-winning Advanta Super Seniors Tennis Tournaments acclaimed by the Florida Tennis Association as the Best Adult Tournament of the year. He is the founder of the very popular "Summer Connection", a social league for club members who stay for the summer in Florida. In 1999, he founded Grainger and Company, a court maintenance firm, recognizing the need for tennis clay court maintenance that could deliver quality maintenance consistently on a daily basis. A graduate of the University of Redlands, California, he is a USPTA Pro 1, Life Member of the USTA, a past commodities Broker and a Board Member of the Florida Tennis Association.
Blake Merrell, a graduate of Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, served as the Director of Tennis at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach from 1997-2007. There he gave lessons, held clinics, organized corporate events and managed the pro shop. Blake was known for his ability to make the hotel guests relax and enjoy their time on the courts. He also interacted with various clubs and condominium associations up and down A1A. He is currently with The Hamlet Country Club in Delray Beach.
Chuck Narvin has the ability to build and revitalize tennis programs combining leadership, organizational skills and functional management skills with experience to have an immediate and real impact on revenues, member participation and customer service. Chuck developed and implemented the private programs of both the Woodmont and Gleneagles Country Clubs from their inceptions. He acted as a consultant in the design and construction of these country club facilites, implemented and established all operating policies, planned budgets, allocated funds, authorized all expenditures, and hired and applied team building techniques to all staff members. He ignited the tennis program of the Racquet Club of Boca Raton, a 26 clay court facility, working for the owner and eventually with the City of Boca Raton Parks and Recreation. Most recently he taught at Anthem Country Club and Trilogy of Vistancia in Phoenix, Arizona. He is currently the Director of Tennis at the Beach Club of Delray, Delray Beach. A graduate of Clemson University, South Carolina, he is a USPTA Pro 2, a member of the USTA and on the Prince Advisory Staff.
